LOCAL FOOD PORN BLOG - Thursday, August 7th
Giving thanks for being so lucky to live in a town were you can eat food and know where it comes from everyday.
We tend to take for granted the fact that eating local is a reality here in Ann Arbor and in many cases beyond that "gourmet restaurant" experience can be had right at home because of the great ingredients all around us. I can remember visiting Ann Arbor 20 years ago and being hard pressed to find cilantro! Now we have it all because there is a demand for it because we want to, lower our carbon foot print, walk or ride our bikes with personalized re-use-able bags.
This fact is more apparent when you leave town on business or to get away and see some nature and the food options are on preservatives and so is your appetite.
I keep saying that I'm going to post my "Local Food Porn."
I'm dedicating these pictures to Kath Weider my beloved and comrade in amazing food, all the local people and farmers who continue to support and sustain and two of my great chef friends each of whom I've spent countless e hours in Kitchens in many beautiful places sharing the labor of love and Amazing food! People always ask me why is Roos Roast so good? It's because I've been drinking and tasting coffee since I was 12 and I've been cooking professionally since I was 14 and now I'm... Well forget it. I've been around and I'm ready for more! Thank you for reading and your comments are welcome.
PS Don't miss Jeff McCabe's Motorized Bike Building Work-Shop on the 11th of August. Wasn't that rain nice today?
Your Chef and roaster John Roos

That raw beet salad looks delicious. Have you been following beetmania in the NYT? I think beet risotto is on the agenda for today.
